Fortified city of the small stone
4 minutes from the hotel
Created in the 12th century as a mountain castle, with a fortified city, at the crossroads of very old roads, on a strategic passage between Alsace and Lorraine, the Château de La Petite Pierre and its fortifications were modernized by Vauban in 1684. This castle, which has not been subjected to an artillery siege, is today the headquarters of the Vosges du Nord Regional Natural Park, an area recognized as a "World Biosphere Reserve" by UNESCO. It is currently closed to the public due to renovation work.
The medieval city is also home to the Musée du Sceau Alsacien, in the former garrison chapel, the Musée des Arts et Traditions populaires (Springerle or positives of old cake molds); another curiosity in the gardens of the Town Hall, the Maison des Païens, a former watchtower and tollhouse, built on Gallo-Roman remains at the beginning of the 16th century, today hosts an exhibition and sale of leather and wooden objects. A magical place in Alsace.

The houses of the Graufthal rocks
Surrounded by deep forests and dominated by imposing pink sandstone walls, Graufthal owes its origins to a Benedictine convent already mentioned in the 12th century. Near the remains of the abbey, the rock houses give this unique site in Alsace a special charm.
Now restored and converted, the three picturesque dwellings allow visitors to discover the living environment of their occupants and the view of this place since the 18th century by artists: painters, photographers, illustrators, lithographers.
